This boxset contains two books, Stretching Exercises for Seniors and Balance exercises for Seniors。 If you are lucky enough, your copy may also provide you with a link to a free logbook and copy of the author’s book, Strength Training After 40。 This book is very easy to follow with not too much talking at you for pages or lengthy and repetitive explanations。 Instead it pretty much jumps into what it says it is there to show you, with detailed exercises and stretches, each with a clear diagram an This boxset contains two books, Stretching Exercises for Seniors and Balance exercises for Seniors。 If you are lucky enough, your copy may also provide you with a link to a free logbook and copy of the author’s book, Strength Training After 40。 This book is very easy to follow with not too much talking at you for pages or lengthy and repetitive explanations。 Instead it pretty much jumps into what it says it is there to show you, with detailed exercises and stretches, each with a clear diagram and description as to whether seated, standing or lying down, as well as a step by step guide for that stretch or exercise。 The stretching section gives you reasons why we should stretch and the sorts of stretches and when to do them。 This includes stretches to do after you wake up, ones to do before you go to bed, before and after exercise, and even targeted stretches for areas such as your hands and feet that many wouldn’t normally even think of。 They point out some variations in case the stretch is too difficult or hard to do with whatever issues a person may have。 The descriptions include if the stretch is to be held and if so for how long, or if it is a ‘bouncy’ type of stretch which is only for certain ones。 The aim is to increase your functional mobility and release tension in your muscles and ligaments, thus enabling you to continue doing the things you love for as long as you feel able to。The balance section gives a lot of details on things people can do to help strengthen their body and mind to help prevent falls。 It list a lot of the risk factors involved in falls and hints on how to make your home or journey safer。 It suggests that you test your balance regularly, so you know how stable you are in certain positions, whether that might be reaching for something off a shelf, balancing on one leg to get dressed or step into the bath, or simply stepping off a curb to cross the road。 There is a whole section on strengthening your core, to improve your posture and support your body in all the movements you want to make。 Each exercise is well explained, again with a clear diagram and step by step list of what to do, and what areas of the body it targets。 Lots of these exercises and stretches might be things you have been given to do by a physio or seen in an exercise class at some time or another。 But there are always new ones to learn and to learn how to do them the correct way。 Never push yourself too far and certainly not into any kind of pain。 Go as far as you can and do what you can, even if it isn’t as much as shown。 The idea is to build up to a certain level of sets and repetitions of these things and hopefully see an improvement after a few months and also feel a lot better as well。 Although I am not yet sixty, I thought this would be useful for both me, as I have MSK and mobility issues, but for my parents as well, one who struggles with balance and dizzy spells, and the other with ankle and shoulder issues。 This is a great set of books, easy to pop in and out of as required and even has an example programme for people to follow day by day, with all the relevant areas covered over a period of days, in one easy diary style list。 I was particularly interested in the eye movement exercises for balance issues and dizzy spells and could see how lots of the eye exercises make people change their focus and so then be able to pay more attention when out and about。 The books don’t preach or repeat reams of information and are easy to follow, as well as suitable for a wide range of people。 My only issue was a formatting issue with my epub version of the books which left me having to go to the end, to actually be at the beginning of the book and turn pages going in the opposite direction as normal Maybe that was a trick to get my eyes and hands working together in a different way! I received an ARC copy of this boxset from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the books above。 。。。more
